The Web search engine and portal Lycos Inc. Monday said its No. 1 "search term" for 2005 was Paris Hilton.

Second most popular on the list of the 50 most sought after people, places and things was actress Pamela Anderson, followed by pop star Britney Spears and, coming in at No. 4, poker.

Dragonball was the fifth most often sought subject followed by Jennifer Lopez, WWE, Pokemon, Playstation and Hurricane Katrina.

"Paris and Pam routinely jump in and out of the top spot on our Lycos 50 weekly list and Britney Spears is never far behind," a Lycos spokesman said in a news release. "But this marks the first time in the history of The Lycos 50 year-end list, that three women make up the top three most-searched terms of the year."

Eminem was the most-searched man of 2005 while knocked off the list were President George W. Bush, actor Orlando Bloom and Lakers star Kobe Bryant. The president garnered "less interest online than Scooby-Doo," Lycos noted.

The most searched TV show was "The Simpsons" while Hurricane Katrina was the most-searched news event of the year.
