- He has two older sisters, Kristin and Megan, and two younger brothers, Devon and Brandon. During his early childhood, he lived in Canandaigua, New York, but moved to Florida so his father could coach swimming.
- Ryan's mother is Cuban -- born and raised in Havana -- while his father is of Dutch, English, and German descent.
- The swimmer is the current world-record holder in the 200 individual medley. He also has a total of 70 medals in major international competitions, including 45 first-place finishes.
- Ryan went to the University of Florida, and as a Gator, became a two-time NCAA Swimmer of the Year, 24-time NCAA All-American, and seven-time NCAA Champion. He majored in Sport Management and graduated from college in 2007.
- In August 2012, Ryan filed an application to trademark his personal catchphrase, "Jeah," but it never became finalized. He claims he's too mature now for the phrase. (He appreciates still being famous for his grills though).
