"American Idol" dropout Mario Vazquez is reportedly recording an album with legendary producer Clive Davis for his J Records label.

FoxNews.com also reports Vazquez is being managed by Arnold Steifel -- the man behind Rod Stewart's successful career.

Fox columnist Roger Friedman said Vazquez, who quit the TV talent competition mid-season, avoided having to abide by any limits set down by "Idol's" 19 Entertainment and Simon Fuller.

An announcement about Vazquez's forthcoming album is expected after Labor Day.
