Hilton had originally been scheduled to be a guest on the show November 26, 2003, before canceling her appearance once word of her sex tape scandal broke. After learning of her cancellation, Letterman had publicly appealed for Hilton to reconsider her decision during the following evening's show monologue.

"You come on this show, by god, we'll make you a hero. We'll talk about anything you want to talk about. If you have pets, we'll talk about your pets. If you want to talk about the sexual videotape, fine; if you don't, that's fine with me too. We all know it's not your fault. It's your idiot boyfriend's fault, that's the problem. We'll set the record straight. It'll be a love fest," said Letterman at the time.

"They have a lot in common. She's the heir to the Hilton Hotel fortune and he's the heir to the Stadium Motor Lodge fortune," quipped Rob Burnett, Late Show executive producer in the network's announcement.

FOX's The Simple Life 2, the reality comedy series co-starring Hilton and her friend Nicole Richie, will premiere Wednesday, June 16 at 8PM ET/PT.
