Former boy band crooner Nick Lachey has been hired as a sportscaster by ESPN, it was reported Thursday.

Probably best known as the husband of pop star Jessica Simpson for their stint on MTV's reality show "Newlyweds," Lachey will strike out on his own with ESPN's "College Game Day,""Entertainment Tonight" reported.

The network said Lachey will do feature reports on fans, athletes and other team-related stories.

"College Game Day" starts its new season Saturday.
