Married at First Sight star Matthew Gwynne's co-stars feel it's absurd for the former pro basketball player to boast he invested a lot of effort into his marriage to Amber Bowles.

Viewers of Married at First Sight's ninth season have watched Matt leave Amber alone in their apartment for several nights with little to no communication and complain about her being "clingy" and overwhelming.

But during a couples' retreat that aired during a previous episode, Matt told his male co-stars Jamie Thompson, Keith Manley and Gregory Okotie that he had been giving his relationship his all.

"I haven't even sat back and said, 'Is this what you want, Matt?' You know?" Matt told the guys.

"I think for me personally, I've invested a lot up to this point, like, a lot. I really haven't even taken the time to stop and say, 'Am I happy?'"

When Thompson appeared on Wednesday night's Married at First Sight: Unfiltered episode with Season 9 star Deonna McNeill and expert Pastor Calvin Roberson, the three reality TV stars laughed about Matt's comments right along with Unfiltered host Jamie Otis.

While watching the clip back of Matt at the retreat, Otis blatantly laughed through it.

When Matt insisted he was totally invested in his marriage to Amber, Otis' mouth even dropped open in disbelief.

"I just can't right now!" Otis said, totally speechless. "Please, someone explain how I'm feeling!"

Deonna, Thompson and Pastor Cal were all laughing at the clip on Unfiltered as well before someone took over for Otis.

"Looking at that clip, I'm just laughing. Because, bruh, no!" Deonna said.

"Thank you!" Pastor Cal noted.

"Come on!" Deonna exclaimed.

Otis asked the cast members if they thought Matt had actually believed what he was saying, and Deonna simply replied, "No."

"I've got nothing on that one," Thompson chimed in. "When he said like, 'I haven't asked myself if Matt's happy,' it's just like, I feel like you've kind of been making yourself happy."

Otis cracked up laughing, and then Deonna pointed out, "The whole time."

"I just thought I'd throw that out there," Thompson said with a big smile.

Pastor Cal also expressed how Matt's comment about wanting to be happy was pretty absurd.

"This whole thing about 'happy,' you can't base your marriage on whether or not I feel happy! Happy is an emotion; it comes and goes," Pastor Cal explained.

"Base your marriage on whether or not this is a valuable commodity that can take us to a desired goal. And if it will, then doggone stay in it! Stop punking out and be a man and stay in your marriage."

Otis insisted "marriage ain't for punks," to which Pastor Cal reiterated, "It ain't for punks."

Thompson and Deonna, on the other hand, have been shown putting their best effort into their relationships with Elizabeth Bice and Greg, respectively.

Married at First Sight's currently-airing ninth season on Lifetime also stars Keith's wife Iris Caldwell.

"Decision Day" is right around the corner for the four couples in which they must decide whether they'd like to stay married or get a divorce once and for all.
