Season 9 of Married at First Sight was filmed in Charlotte, NC, and premiered last week on Lifetime.

Amber, a 27-year-old eighth grade English teacher currently living in the Charlotte area, was matched with Matt, a 32-year-old professional basketball player from Raleigh, NC, by Married at First Sight experts Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Pastor Calvin Roberson, and newcomer Dr. Viviana Coles based on compatibility, goals, hobbies, religious views and more.

After meeting for the first time at their wedding ceremony, Amber and Matt's life together was documented over the course of eight weeks -- including their honeymoon and moving in together.

During an exclusive interview with Reality TV World, Amber shined some light on her expectations of marriage and what she's looking for in her ideal spouse. Below is the first part of what she had to say.

Reality TV World: You're a self-declared Tomboy in that you don't like glitz, glam and wearing makeup. Did you request a very manly-man from the experts as a result? What did you tell the experts you were looking for, because I recall you saying personality matters more to you than looks.

Amber Bowles: I requested a guy who wouldn't be bothered by my Tomboy ways. I asked the experts for someone who was expressive and communicative, and more than anything, someone who was kind. Looks were never anything that I was concerned about because attraction can grow, but being a good person is innate.

Reality TV World: Matt worried it would look bad to not have his parents attend your wedding, and we saw relatives on your side notice that at the ceremony. What was your reaction when you found out his parents weren't there? Was that a red flag for you?

Amber Bowles: When I found out Matt's family was not at the wedding, I was definitely curious about the reason why. I wouldn't say it was necessarily a red flag though. However, I'm a person who respects others privacy, so I didn't want to ask or probe. I figured Matt would tell me everything whenever he was ready.

Reality TV World: You clearly thought Matt was handsome and cute upon first meeting him, but after getting to know him on your wedding night, what did you think about him? What did you think your chances were at the time of having a lasting, successful marriage?

Amber Bowles: I do think Matt is super cute... his smile is just wow. On our wedding day, he did seem kind of closed off and his walls were up, so from the start, I was a little worried about having a successful, lasting marriage with him.

For me, I came into this with my walls down and my heart ready to invest in the other person, so I was hopeful my husband would do the same.
