Married at First Sight expert Dr. Viviana Coles says Erik Lake's issue is he states or explains things in such a commanding way that his words sometimes come across as demands to wife Virginia Coombs.

On the March 24 broadcast of Married at First Sight: Unfiltered, Viviana and Erik watched back a Season 12 clip of Virginia asking her husband whether he'd like to exchange passwords.

"I mean, you can look through my phone any time you want," Erik tells Virginia in the clip.

"You don't care if I'm texting my guy friends and stuff, right?" Virginia asks.

"Well, there's the two that I know of -- so those two, yes, I don't care," Erik responds.

After Virginia asks Erik if he cares whom she's friends with on social media, he replies, "If you're liking an ex-boyfriend's picture, I don't like that. It doesn't make any sense."

"Well what's the point of being friends with them if I can't like their stuff?" Virginia questions.

"Then don't be friends with them on there. You shouldn't be anyway," Erik states.

Virginia says that she's not sure whether to get annoyed about this or let it go, and Erik concludes, "You do get annoyed!"

Unfiltered host Jamie Otis -- who starred on Season 1 of Married at First Sight -- asked Erik bluntly whether he gets jealous easily.

"I don't know. When it comes to exes with me, I guess with my past, I've dealt with things where it went over the line, I think, on the other part," Erik explained.

"Like, I know I can come across a little strong and I'm not trying to be mean or anything like that. It's something I'm working on, for sure, but I mean, it's a flaw of mine and I know that."

Erik's Married at First Sight co-star Jacob Harder also appeared on Unfiltered and chimed in, "I think context is everything, and I think what you were intending to say, there wasn't any foul sort of intention there."

"That's always something you have to gauge, I think, in person," Jacob added.

Viviana then offered her take on the Married at First Sight clip.

"Someone who doesn't know his wife super well and doesn't know her friends, I think he's saying, 'Let's make sure that we're guarding our relationship,'" Viviana said.

"He says it in a way though that is so, like, commanding!"

Viviana then addressed Erik and said, "It sounds like you know what you don't want and you want to give her that feedback; you want to give her the keys to make sure that you're happy. But she doesn't know that that's where it's coming from."

"Yeah," Erik agreed.

"It just sounds like demand, demand, demand," Viviana pointed out.

When asked why the topic of guy friends was coming up so much in his marriage, Erik told Jamie, "We're coming from two different worlds and she hasn't had a serious relationship in a long time."

"I was just in a marriage, you know? But I've been single for three years," Erik continued.

"So now I'm jumping into a marriage as well, so I'm going to make mistakes. I'm not saying I know everything, but I know it's nothing more than wanting to make this work. I'm giving 100 percent."

Erik was also holding out hope these issues would resolve themselves over time.

"I think if we continue to communicate and talk about it more, we're going to get there. And I will work on how I'm saying stuff, for sure," Erik acknowledged.

Erik and Virginia have had some low moments and struggles -- such as their opposing political views and social beliefs -- on Married at First Sight's currently-airing twelfth season.

On the latest episode, Virginia also told Erik that she didn't want to move into his apartment after the show ended because she and her three pets wouldn't feel comfortable there.

"Her wanting to live separately is taking a step back, like, it worries me," Erik admitted to the cameras.

"She's finding excuses to not live with me, and I get the feeling she's going to get scared off and just run away... that's how she was in previous relationships, and I think about that. So it's hard."

However, the pair claim to be in love with each other, and they both try to find new and creative ways to show one another that they care.

When celebrating their one-month wedding anniversary, Erik took Virginia flying in a plane and she gifted him with sweet and thoughtful items, such as a blanket with her face on it.

Erik said his relationship was going better than he ever thought it would at the one-month mark.
