Lamar Odom is luckily on his way to walking, another crucial step in his long road to recovery.

Odom, 35, still has a lot of work to do, but according to an insider, the former NBA star is "walking with help now," Us Weekly reported.

"He is getting stronger every day," the insider close to Odom told Us. "And has a great team of therapists and specialists working with him. He's 6' 11" and weighs a lot, so getting him to walk a little has been really hard."

Odom's speech and ability to communicate has also reportedly improved.

"He is more coherent and can talk more," said the insider.

Despite previous reports Odom is on dialysis and "definitely" needs a kidney transplant, the insider explained that doctors are still "trying to get his kidneys to function on their own."

The extent of damage to Odom's body remains uncertain since the October 13 incident when he was found unconscious from a drug overdose when staying at a Nevada brothel. After waking up from a four-day coma, Odom was transported from a Las Vegas hospital to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles in order to be closer to his wife Khloe Kardashian and her family.

"He's doing a tiny bit better, but he has a very long road back to full recovery -- if that," a source told the magazine earlier this week.

Kardashian has recently faced backlash in light of rumors her family is just trying to cash in on Odom's health crisis through alleged post-recovery interviews and footage for E!'s Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Kardashian revealed this week she's not back together with Odom romantically although she's not sure what the future holds. All she knows is that she wants to be right at Odom's side through his progress, no matter how long it takes.
