The American Idol judge is reportedly teaming with Shed Productions to create Rock Rivals, a drama set in the behind-the-scenes world of an Idol-like reality competition series.  Rock Rivals has been commissioned by Britain's ITV, Daily Variety reported on Friday, with filming scheduled to occur this summer so the series can premiere in late fall on the United Kingdom's ITV1.

"Rock Rivals [is] X-Factor meets Dallas," Cowell told Variety, referring to the popular British Idol-like reality competition show that he co-created and judges on.

Rock Rivals will reportedly focus on two celebrity judges of a reality competition series whose marriage falls apart.

"[It's] a blitzy combination of wild characters and pacey plots set against a world of ruthless ambition," Brian Park, president of Shed Productions, told Variety.  "Only Simon Cowell can provide that unique insight of what it is like to be at the epicenter on a worldwide phenomenon."

While Cowell will be able to offer firsthand knowledge of what it's like to judge a reality competition series -- Variety speculates that his involvement serves another purpose as well -- as it reported that Shed is hoping that the famous Brit's involvement will help secure commission for an American version of Rock Rivals.
