David Cook's current stint on the road was put on a brief hiatus earlier this week.

The American Idol seventh-season champ canceled a Monday concert at Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH and a Tuesday concert at Connecticut University in New Haven, CT "to deal with personal family matters," according to a Sunday posting on his official website.

"We are canceling Monday and Tuesday's shows to allow David time to deal with personal family matters. Please respect his privacy at this time," reads the posting.  "David would like everyone to rest assured that we are working with the universities to reschedule the shows that are missed."

While the website message did not specify what the "personal family matters" were, Cook's older brother Adam has been battling brain cancer for more than 10 years.

A rep for Cook told People that the reigning Idol champ spent time with his brother last week and plans to continue on his tour on Thursday.

Cook's current concert tour kicked-off last month and is currently slated to run through October.

Despite the unexpected time off, fans will still be able to see able to see Cook perform tonight.  Two weeks ago, the 26-year-old taped a performance of his "Come Back to Me" single that will air during Wednesday night's Idol eighth-season results show.
