The bad omens surrounding the American Idol spinoff movie From Justin to Kelly, starring initial Idol finalists Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, continue. The New York Post reports that Fox has had to delay its plans to release the movie on video about six weeks after its theatrical opening (which has now been delayed to June 20) due to protests from theater owners.

Apparently several theater chains,

including giants Loews, Regal and National Amusements, threatened to refuse to show the film at all if the video date remained unchanged. In normal industry practice, a short schedule between theatrical release and video release signals low expectations for the movie's box-office prospects -- consistent with the decision reported yesterday to cancel the advance press screenings for the movie.

A new release date has not yet been set for the DVD, although an August or September date still appears likely.

Countdown to movie release: 15 days. Are Kelly and Justin the next Frankie and Annette ... or is this movie the next Ishtar? We'll know in just over two weeks.
