Danny Gokey and his wife Leyicet Peralta have welcomed their first baby into the world.

"Leyicet and I are overjoyed to welcome the new member of our family. I'm ecstatic to be a first time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with," Gokey, a former eighth-season American Idol finalist, told People.
"Thankfully, because of what I do, it will also allow me the flexibility to spend a lot of quality time with him. I have so many exciting projects ahead this year but a brand new baby is an amazing way to get the new year started. We feel really blessed!"
Gokey and Peralta, a 26-year-old model, wed around this same time last year after announcing the news of their engagement one month earlier in December 2011.
Gokey was married once before, but his former wife Sophia passed away four years ago.
Gokey -- a 32-year-old from Milwaukee, WI who made it to the Top 3 during American Idol's 2009 season -- lost his late wife in 2008 after she underwent a routine heart surgery, and his tragic backstory was prominently featured during his Idol edition.
