Dancing with the Stars eliminated Heather Morris and her professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, which turned out to be a shocking result, during Monday night's Season 24 performance show on ABC.

The Glee star and Maksim, who finally returned to the competition last night after a leg injury, became the fifth couple ousted from the competition based on the combination of Dancing with the Stars judges' scores and home viewer votes they had received during last week's episode.

The pair was booted from the show after receiving a perfect score of 40 points from Dancing with the Stars' regular judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba, as well as guest judge Nick Carter, who was filling in for Julianne Hough.

"I'm okay. You know, It's a hard competition and I'm really happy that I got to do exactly what I got to do," Heather said in her final words, seemingly trying to hold back tears. "It was really, really fun."

"I put in a lot of work to try and come back and give her the chance," Maksim said. "I'm not saying anything. I think [my temporary replacement Alan Bersten] did an amazing job, and I think Heather is my inspiration moving forward. What we've gone through together is unmatchable in my best season."

Heather added, "And I really really want to say thank you to both of them because they were both magical. It was fantastic."

Last week, Heather and Alan, a Dancing with the Stars Troupe member, tied for fourth place on the judges' leaderboard at 34 points with another couple.

Iconic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan and partner Artem Chigvintsev were the other couple in jeopardy last night prior to Heather and Maksim's ouster; however, they were not necessarily one of the bottom-two couples based on judges' scores and America's votes.

Monday night's show featured the eight remaining celebrity and professional pairings each performing an individual dance routine for "Boy Bands and Girl Groups Night" as well as a freestyle for the "Team Dance" round in which the male celebrities squared off against the females. The contestants were required to dance alone without their pro partners for 20 seconds during the performance.

Heather and Maksim topped the judges' leaderboard in first place Monday night with 74 out of 80 total points after receiving a perfect score for their rumba routine to "Waterfalls" by TLC and then 34 out of 40 points for their "Team Dance" with Nancy, Fifth Harmony member Normani Kordei, and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.

Normani and partner Val Chmerkovskiy finished in second place with 72 total points after they earned 38 points for their individual salsa routine to "When I Grow Up" by the Pussycat Dolls and then 34 points for their "Team Dance."

Third place went to NFL free agent Rashad Jennings and partner Emma Slater. They received a total of 70 points after earning 37 points for their individual tango routine to "Reach Out, I'll Be There" by The Four Tops and then 33 points for their "Team Dance" with The Bachelor star Nick Viall, two-time World Series champion David Ross, and professional bull rider-turned-model Bonner Bolton.

The men called their boyband RNB + D based on the first letters of their names.

Simone and partner Sasha Farber claimed fourth place on the leaderboard with 69 total points. After taking the stage with an individual samba routine to "Survivor" by Destiny's Child worthy of 35 points, the couple received an additional 34 points for their "Team Dance."

Nancy and Artem finished in fifth place on the leaderboard after receiving a total of 67 points from the judges. The couple first danced a paso doble to "Free Your Mind" by En Vogue, which earned 33 points, and then wrapped up their score with the "Team Dance" in which the girl group won 34 extra points.

Bonner and partner Sharna Burgess earned a total of 63 points, landing them in sixth place on the leaderboard. Bonner and Sharna performed an individual rumba to "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys which earned 30 points from the judges, and then they added 33 points from the "Team Dance" round to their initial score.

In seventh place was David and partner Lindsay Arnold with 62 total points. After the pair danced the Argentine tango to "I Want You Back" by *NSYNC and received 29 points, David and Lindsay followed that up with their 33-point worthy "Team Dance."

Nick and partner Peta Murgatroyd finished in eighth -- and last -- place on the judges' leaderboard with 61 total points. Nick and Peta first performed the jive to "Fun, Fun, Fun" by The Beach Boys, which received 28 points, and then performed the "Team Dance," which earned them an additional 33 points.
