Dancing with the Stars champion Kellie Pickler almost didn't go through with competing on the show.

"I remember going home after they announced the contestants on Good Morning America earlier this year. I went home, was laying in bed, looked at my husband [Kyle Jacobs] and said, 'Baby, what have I got myself into? It's too late to back out now, isn't it?' But they already announced us being on the show. He said, 'Yes, it's too late, so just enjoy it,'" the country star and former American Idol finalist told Life & Style.

Regardless of her second thoughts, Pickler took the stage week after week with Dancing with the Stars professional partner Derek Hough and repeatedly impressed judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman and her ABC audience.

After 13 weeks of training and 17 rounds of competition, the couple were crowned winners of the show's sixteenth season during Tuesday night's finale broadcast.

"I'm overwhelmed with joy and kind of speechless for the first time -- usually, I can't be quiet," Pickler explained. "Usually I'm spitting out words left and right, but right now I don't know what to say."

"I was so proud of her and it was just incredible," Hough told Life & Style. "Not only is she an amazing dancer for what she has done and accomplished, but she's an amazing soul and person. I'm really happy for her."

Not only was Pickler overwhelmed she had won Dancing with the Stars, she was also shocked.

"I'm standing there and there is just two of us left," she said. "I was just playing the whole journey through my mind and kind of visualizing every dance. We have made so many memories out here in this dance floor and studio."

Pickler's experience on the show apparently sparked a passion for dancing the singer never realized she had.

"I told my husband if he didn't take dance classes with me, that I was going to have to find a rent a husband!" Pickler explained. "Kyle was so proud [of me last night] and the first thing he said was, 'Baby, I love you and I'm so proud of you, you did it!'"
