Colton Underwood is explaining why he refuses to reveal whether he's engaged or at least found love on The Bachelor's 23rd season.

"I want everybody to go on this ride and this journey with me, so I don't want to spoil anything and I don't want to give anything away," Colton told The Hollywood Reporter about keeping his relationship status a secret.

"It was challenging and it was hard at times. I knew it was going to be hard at times and I embraced it and I loved the fact that it was. But I will say, I'm exactly where I need to be in my life right now."

In recent seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, viewers have grown accustomed to finding out whether the male or female lead gets engaged at the end of his or her journey to find a lifelong partner early on -- although the identity of the winner is always still publicly concealed.

Becca Kufrin, Rachel Lindsay, and Arie Luyendyk Jr., for example, all confirmed whether their experience on the show ended happily before their respective seasons even premiered.

And while Nick Viall did not reveal his engagement, he at least shared he had found  true love.

But Colton is different, and his decision to remain so tight-lipped about the ending of Season 23 has Bachelor Nation wondering if something went wrong or maybe  the conclusion truly is the most shocking or dramatic one ever.

"I was very raw with it. And I will say, I did do things differently. I challenged the production of the show, my relationships and myself throughout this entire journey," Colton told The Reporter.

"Coming onto the show, I wanted to continue to grow as a person. I wanted to continue to give it my best shot and really get to know these incredible women, so of course that is what I came to do. Like I said, I don’t want to spoil too much for you."

ABC reality chief Robert Mills previously confirmed cameras will continue rolling after Colton makes his final decision to capture the possibility of a change of heart or maybe even a breakup.

After Arie dumped his fiancee, Becca, during a "happy couple" getaway in order to reunite with his runner-up, Lauren Burnham, one year ago, producers apparently learned it's important to follow through with each couple's love story once the season wraps filming.

Bachelor Nation therefore got to witness some sweet moments between Becca and her current fiance, Garrett Yrigoyen, after they got engaged at the Final Rose Ceremony of Season 14.

Since Colton revealed his "unique" season will have many "twists and turns" -- as well as a windy road of navigating his feelings, according to E! News -- fans can anticipate an ending like no other.
