Cheryl Cole will appear as a judge on TV talent show "The X Factor" in the United States, her spokeswoman said on Thursday, ending months of speculation in the domestic press.

Cole, 27, has been a judge alongside Simon Cowell on the British version of the show for three years, raising her profile as a major celebrity.

But there have been doubts over whether her relatively low profile in the United States, and her Newcastle accent, would limit her appeal there.
