CBS announced the location Tuesday (April 30), confirming earlier reports that the Thai government had issued permits to the show to film in the country's Tarutao National Park.

The park, established in 1974, contains more than 50 islands. The Survivor contestants will stay on Koh Tarutao, the largest land mass in the park, which was once used to house political prisoners. The island's 58 square miles are home to a number of species of birds, monkeys and snakes, and the waters around it contain an array of marine life that includes whales and sea turtles.
