America's Got Talent debuted with an unforgettable moment thanks to opera-singing contestant Laura Bretan.

Laura, a meek and humble 13-year-old girl, stepped onstage following a montage of subpar vocal auditions for America's Got Talent's eleventh season that were panned by the sharp-tongued Simon Cowell

Laura, wearing her brown hair in a sweet side braid with a pink scrunchie, admitted to Simon and the other judges -- Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Melanie "Mel B" Brown -- that she was really nervous to perform onstage.

After receiving some comforting words from the judges, Laura braced herself and started to sing.

What happened next stunned the audience, judges and viewers at home. Simon, who created AGT, said he's never heard anything like it in all the years he's been doing the show. It was truly a Susan Boyle-like surprise.

Mel B. pushed the "Golden Buzzer" for Laura to advance her straight through to this season's live shows.
