Amanda Stanton's ex-husband, Nick Buonfiglio, is sharing his side of the story after the bachelorette opened up to Ben Higgins about her failed marriage on The Bachelor.

Stanton and Buonfiglio divorced in June 2015, only three months before the mom of two began filming The Bachelor. Because of the short timeline, Buonfiglio told Life & Style her decision to compete for Higgins' heart was "a hard pill to swallow" and watching her journey unfold on television has been "pretty surreal."

During the latest episode of The Bachelor, Stanton told Higgins on their one-on-one date in Mexico that Buonfiglio wasn't very nice to her, had an addictive personality and cared more about spending time with friends than his own family.

Stanton insisted she tried hard to make it work, especially when she became pregnant with their second child, but then she found out he had been cheating on her. Despite giving him many second chances, Stanton explained he just didn't want to change.

Buonfiglio told Life & Style his relationship with Stanton didn't work out because they got married too young and had communication problems. He also apparently wasn't equipped to handle Stanton's high-strung nature.

"She tends to get stressed out pretty easily," Buonfiglio explained. "She can get high anxiety. When we were together, she got very frantic sometimes."

Based on his experience with the soft-spoken esthetician, Buonfiglio offered some advice to Higgins if he ends up with her.

"The best thing to do is just stay calm, cool and levelheaded with her," he told the magazine. "I wasn't able to do that as much as I should've. She likes to talk, so just have an open ear."

Buonfiglio added that Higgins "seems like a nice guy" and must be ready for an "instant family" if Stanton receives his final rose.

"I will always have a place for her in my heart," Buonfiglio confessed.

The Bachelor airs every Monday night from 8-10PM ET/PT on ABC.
