Announced Thursday, the "American Idol" runner-up will star as Eddie, the former motorcycle riding delivery boy first played by singer Meat Loaf in the 1975 original film.

Eddie was noteworthy for performing the song "Hot Patootie - Bless My Soul."

Lambert joins a growing cast that includes Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan as sweethearts Janet Weiss and Brad Majors along with "Orange is the New Black" actress Laverne Cox who was cast as mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

"I grew up watching 'Rocky Horror,' but could never imagine that I would be part of this new vision," Lambert said in a statement.

"'Rocky Horror' always made me feel like it was OK to celebrate my weirdness. Hallelujah, bless my soul! I love that old-time rock-n-roll!"

Directed and choreographed by "High School Musical" helmer Kenny Ortega, the two-hour special is set to air this fall on Fox.
