As shown on Season 5 of 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days, Kim, a 50-year-old from San Diego, CA, and Usman, a 32-year-old from Sokoto, Nigeria, both traveled to Zanzibar, Tanzania, to meet in-person for the first time after talking virtually and on the phone for nearly a year.

Considering Usman had gone through a tumultuous marriage and divorce to his Season 4 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days co-star Lisa Hamme, he wanted to get to know Kim -- a "Super Fan" whom he called his "potential" girlfriend -- for a couple of weeks before determining whether they should be in an exclusive relationship.

"I knew he was not going to propose to me... I knew he was not going to," Kim told Us Weekly about the couple's first encounter.

"I went to his room to give gifts... People are like, 'Oh she's desperate,' but I really didn't think he was going to propose."

Kim recalled, "I was holding my hand out, like, '[The ring] goes on this finger!' But we were dying. We were laughing so hard, I had tears coming down my eyes. And it was so misconstrued."

Kim said the show made it seem like she was anticipating getting engaged right away but that certainly wasn't the case.

"I knew he wasn't going to propose to me on the second day," she reiterated. "I wasn't even his girlfriend. We were just hanging out."

And when asked whether she would have said "yes" to a marriage proposal right away, Kim told Us, "No, not at that moment. No."

"Because it was our second day [together]. That's crazy. I would've been like, 'Umm, let's put a pin on this until later on,'" insisted Kim, although she was Usman's "Super Fan" and has been portrayed as being head-over-heels in love and crazy about him.

Kim also said she wasn't trying to rush her relationship with Usman and her expensive gifts to the rapper -- a laptop and Playstation 5 gaming system -- were not attempts to buy his love.

"Usman and I came into this as friends. We were friends. I was dating other people, too, before I went to Zanzibar. So we said we wanted to get to know each other and see how the trip progressed and see how we are in person after what he had been through [with Lisa]," Kim explained.

"And so I was fine with that. I was fine. Yes, I got the honeymoon suite and yes, did I want him to come [and join me]? Of course I did! He's SojaBoy, of course I did!"

"But I respect his values, I respect his culture," she added, "and if we sleep in separate bedrooms, so be it."

Kim admitted her first meeting with Usman was "awkward" for her too and she had to remember that she was getting to know Usman the man and not SojaBoy "his persona."

But the pair apparently spent more than two hours together in Kim's hotel room after first meeting.

"We were talking and stuff. Not to say we did anything, but it takes a while to set up these scenes, and so we were in there and we were talking and it was our first date," Kim shared.

On possibly getting married in the future, Kim revealed, "I don't know. I don't know about the marriage thing. I mean, I can't really answer that."

But for right now, Kim assured the magazine she is "very happy."

"I am ecstatically happy right now. I am very, very happy. I am happy with all my fans, I am happy with all the support I get from my family," Kim gushed.

Kim also said she believes Usman was dating her for the right reasons, not to obtain a green card in America or boost his fame and rap career. She said Usman wanted to appear on the 90 Day Fiance franchise again just to put their storyline out there for the world to see.

Usman similarly told Entertainment Tonight in December that he was "not scamming anybody" and he is actually madly in love with Kim.

"I love her with all my bones, my heart," Usman said at the time.

"Right now, I am so much in love. I love Kimberly, I can say that any way in the world. I love her. I'm not shy. I'm not ashamed. I am proud to say that I love her. I love her for real."

The rapper also claimed he doesn't need to "use" anyone for financial gain at this point in his career, nor was he ever desperate to move to America and live in the United States.

"For me, being in America is a goal, but it's not the only goal. For me, my goal is to be No. 1 -- the top, top rapper in the world," Usman clarified.

Usman married Lisa on Season 4 of 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days and the pair split in May 2020. Usman later reportedly served Lisa with divorce papers in December 2020.

"I was the first Nigerian man that an American white lady scammed," Usman previously claimed to ET.

"I admit it, everybody knows. She took my money, she [admits] it, everybody knows it. I sent her money, she never sent me money... She called me the N word [and] took my money."

Usman's failed relationship with Lisa is why he had told Kim he wanted to take his time in getting to know her before making their romance serious.

Although Lisa and Usman had tied the knot in Nigeria, their marriage wasn't legal in the United States and so Lisa revealed in April 2021 she had decided to marry her "best friend," a man named Tracey she had met in the fifth grade.

Lisa ultimately believed she was also "the victim of a romance scam" with Usman, and she accused him having used her for fame to advance his rap career.

90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days currently airs Sunday nights at 8PM ET/PT on TLC.
