There has been some confusion over when Ashley and Jay actually tied the knot, with rumors swirling online about three possible occasions.

While 90 Day Fiance's sixth season showed the couple canceling their big local wedding and deciding to elope in Las Vegas, a marriage certificate could not be found in Nevada records.

In addition, photos had surfaced online from what appeared to be a wedding ceremony showing Ashley and Jay posing with the ocean and palm trees in the background -- a setting which certainly didn't look like the Las Vegas landscape.

"I know there are some rumors, so I spoke with TLC they would like me to clarify: We scheduled our original wedding on the 88th day after Jay arrived to America," Ashley wrote Thursday on Instagram, sharing a copy of her marriage license.

"Due to canceling our original wedding plans so last minute (as you saw on the show during the wedding registry incident) and having my kids that weekend, we could not go to Vegas before the 90 days were up."

The "wedding registry incident" was when the couple's wedding website was bombarded with racist comments about their interracial union and threats of violence.

Fearing for their safety, Ashley determined she wanted to marry Jay in private, in a way where no one could ruin their special day.

"Jay and I went to City Hall in Harrisburg, PA, said our vows, then flew out to Vegas for an actual ceremony a week later," Ashley continued in her post.

"This is why no one can find a public certificate in the Vegas records. I hope this gives you all some clarification! Please don't mind my kids juice box spill on the certificate! #momlife #married #90dayfiance #tlc #receipts."

Ashley's marriage certificate reads that "on May 16, 2018, at Upper Allen Township Conroy St Christopher Smith and Ashley Elizabeth Martson were by [retired district justice Ronald E. Klair] united in marriage, in accordance with the license issued by the Clerk of the Orphans' Court Division of the Court of Common Pleas of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania."

As for the photos that appeared to show the couple getting married a tropical wedding, Jay also previously posted an Instagram explanation that the pair participated in a 2017 commitment ceremony in his native country of Jamaica so his family and friends could attend.

The ceremony, however, was more of a spiritual and emotional event, not a legally-binding marriage.

90 Day Fiance couple Eric Rosenbrook and Leida Margaretha had a similar commitment ceremony in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2017. Fans speculated the couple had gotten married before Leida's arrival in the United States, but Eric assured fans the ceremony was strictly for "symbolic" purposes.

Ashley, Jay, Eric and Leida starred on Season 6 of 90 Day Fiance, and the show's reunion special is set to air on Sunday, January 6 on TLC.

Ashley and Jay's relationship has been on the rocks ever since Ashley discovered Jay had been active on Tinder, looking for other women and communicating with them.

While Ashley was completely devastated over Jay's cheating and thought about leaving him entirely, it's unclear what exactly the status of their relationship is now.

Ashley has declined to directly confirm the couple's current status, however based on their recent social-media activity the couple appears to have split just before Christmas.
