Details have yet to been released about the incident or Mahmoud's arrest and sentencing.

Mahmoud and Nicole had just celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary last month.

"Happy 5th anniversary to the love of my life! Words can't express how grateful I am to have you by my side," Mahmoud reportedly wrote via Instagram in January 2024.

"You bring joy, love, and laughter to my days, and I cherish every moment we spend together. Thank you for being my rock, my confidant, and my best friend. Here's to many more years of love and happiness together. I love you endlessly, my beautiful wife."

Mahmoud and Nicole's rollercoaster of a love story aired on TLC in early 2023.

Nicole, who has a passion for fashion design, met Mahmoud in a fabric store while she was on a spiritual tour of Egypt.

Nicole recalled of the "cute" and "sexy" Mahmoud, "He said, 'You should stay in Egypt and be my wife.' He asked me if I really would marry him, so I said, 'Yeah, of course, yeah.'"

Nicole briefly went back to America only to return to Egypt three weeks later for the couple's wedding.

Nicole, however, had trouble adapting to life in Egypt. Nicole had no friends or family, and she often felt belittled or controlled by her husband, who tried to tell the blonde beauty how to dress and behave at home and in public.

Mahmoud also wanted Nicole to convert to Islam and fully embrace being a Muslim.

Nicole therefore decided to go back to the United States and divorce her husband, but she had a change of heart when Mahmoud volunteered to move to America in order to keep their relationship intact and to make his wife happy.

Nicole said on the 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way Tell All for their season that she was so excited Mahmoud had agreed to move to America, and so they were just waiting for his visa to be approved.

But Mahmoud never wanted to live in the United States, and so Nicole wondered if he could thrive there.

Mahmoud, meanwhile, feared their fighting and arguing was just going to get worse. Nicole said he needed to be less of a "dictator" and let her wear less conservative clothing, especially in the summer, but Mahmoud said he didn't want other men looking at his wife.

Mahmoud admitted he wasn't going to make any promises, but Nicole didn't think it was fair -- to either of them -- that she couldn't be herself in the relationship.

Nicole also accused Mahmoud of having "little chats" with other women in different countries.

Nicole apparently went through Mahmoud's phone and found messages in which he had asked a women how old she was, what she was doing, and if she made it back to her hotel room alright. Mahmoud claimed the messages were about work and being a television.

Instead of explaining himself, Mahmoud angrily asked Nicole why she had gone through his phone.

"You think that's okay?" Mahmoud asked.

"No, I don't think it's okay. But I think it's as okay as you having chats with other girls," Nicole clapped back.

Mahmoud therefore apologized to Nicole for his actions and said he didn't want any other woman in his life, and so she decided to call it a "mistake" and just move on from the "ridiculous" situation.

Mahmoud also said he was going to try to change and not control Nicole in the United States. She thanked him for trying because she didn't think their bickering was healthy.

"I don't know how it will be, but I have to take this chance to show her that I love her," Mahmoud told the cameras. "If it works, I get the best thing I [could] ever want."

Mahmoud and Nicole will be starring on the new season of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? when it premieres Sunday, March 17.

The show's upcoming eighth season will also feature Emily Bieberly and Kobe Blaise, Alexei Brovarnik and Loren Brovarnik, Thais Ramone and Patrick Mendes, Jasmine Pineda and Gino Palazzolo, Ed Brown and Liz Woods, as well as Michael Ilesanmi and Angela Deem.
