'The Simple Life' star Nicole Richie signs Fox TV sitcom deal

"The Simple Life" star Nicole Richie has signed a deal that could land her in a TV sitcom.

Richie's deal with 20th Century Fox TV could either put her into an existing show or have a new show build around her, Daily Variety reported.

Although the daughter of singer Lionel Richie has never been in a scripted TV show, 20th Century Fox TV's Dana Walden told Variety she had "comedic instincts."

"Look at episodes of 'The Simple Life,' where the humor is completely derived by Paris' and Nicole's reaction to situations," Walden said. "Consistently Nicole is able to mine comedy in the various episodes."

Richie has said she'd like to be in a biographical type show like Will Smith's "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air."

"The Simple Life" was passed over for a fourth season by Fox TV, but has been picked up by E! Entertainment Television.
