The American Idol fifth-season champ has signed a distribution agreement with Vanguard Records, The New York Post reported Friday. Vanguard's current talent roster includes mostly jazz, blues and folk artists, which is more in-tune with Hicks' own musical creations.

The album will be released on Hicks' own record label -- Modern Whomp Records -- and is expected to comprise mostly of his pre-Idol recordings "Under the Radar" and "In Your Time."

It is currently slated to drop in August, The Post reported.

RCA chairman Clive Davis' Arista Records and Idol creator Simon Fuller's 19 Recordings Limited had signed Hicks to a recording contract only days after won Idol's Spring 2006 fifth-season title.

However Hicks and Arista "mutually agreed to part ways" earlier this year and the Idol champ is currently in the midst of his Broadway debut as the Teen Angel in Grease.
