Survivor: Kaoh Rong castoff Nick Maiorano has revealed there was a plan to blindside Kyle Jason that fell through.

On Wednesday night's episode of Survivor, the merged Dara tribe voted out Nick, a 30-year-old personal trainer from Redondo Beach, CA. The five girls stuck together to get him out with the help of former Brains castaway Joseph "Joe" Del Campo.

Jason, a 31-year-old bounty hunter from Detroit, MI, and Scot Pollard, a 40-year-old former NBA champion from Carmel, IN, went along with Nick's plan to split the vote between former Brains members Aubry Bracco, a 29-year-old social media marketer from Cambridge, MA, and Debbie Wanner, a 49-year-old chemist from Reading, PA.

But in a weird turn of events, Scot's buddy Tai Trang, a 51-year-old gardener from San Francisco, CA, voted for their close ally Jason -- which, from a viewer's perspective, came completely out of left field.

During an exclusive interview with Nick on Thursday, the former Beauty tribe member explained why Tai voted for Jason.

"That was funny!" Nick said with a laugh.

"So here's the thing. The idea was to vote for me after that [Immunity Challenge] because [Cydney Gillon] was pissed off at me for blowing her spot up with the potential girls-alliance thing happening. But [Michele Fitzgerald] and [Julia Sokolowski] didn't want to vote me out."

Nick continued, "So, in their mind, they kind of knew, hey, I was going to stick by them. So they pitched it to Cydney and pitched it to the Brains -- and Tai was in that conversation -- to vote out Jason."

Nick thought there was a great chance he could work with Tai and the girls to take Jason out early.

"They were open to it! But eventually, Debbie said, 'No, Joe's not going to remember whom to vote for, so we have to stick with Nick.' And I guess Tai didn't wind up getting that piece of information that they were going to stick with Nick, so he wound up voting for Jason," Nick explained to Reality TV World.

Scot and Jason had begun the season on the Brawn tribe together, and they eventually welcomed Tai with the knowledge he and Jason both had hidden Immunity Idols, which could then be combined to make a powerful "Super Idol." Tai's vote for Jason therefore came as a huge surprise to Survivor fans.

"Yeah, that part was a real bummer," Nick said, "because it was like Scot and Tai were bonding. But there were signs of Aubry and Tai bonding while we were out there, and I kept telling Scot and Jason that, but you just don't know for sure until there's a vote. And he wound up siding with Aubry on that one!"
