Laguna Beach High School's pool of students that double as subject matter for Laguna Beach has apparently run dry, reportedly causing MTV to seek-out a new setting for its docu-reality series.

MTV has ordered a fourth installment of Laguna Beach, Daily Variety reported on Wednesday.

However it will not be filmed at Laguna Beach High School -- the backdrop for the show's first three seasons -- as Variety reported the fourth edition of the series is currently in production at "another unnamed Orange County school," adding it is likely located in neighboring Newport Beach, the setting for Fox's The O.C. docu-drama that ended its broadcast run this spring.

While Variety reported MTV had previously considered not bringing Laguna Beach back following its third season, that decision was apparently a bit premature, as the cable network plans on having the show return to its roots by following an all new cast of upperclassmen at a Southern California high school.

Laguna Beach producers are still unsure on whether to change the name of the series to be in-sync with the new location or "extend the franchise" by keeping the same moniker as its first three editions, according to Variety

The fourth season of Laguna Beach could debut as soon as "later this year, Variety reported.
