Report: Melanie Brown trying out for 'Dancing with the Stars' co-host

By Christopher Rocchio, 02/25/2010

ABC apparently hasn't narrowed the field for Dancing with the Stars new co-host as much as previously reported.

Dancing with the Stars fifth-season celebrity runner-up Melanie Brown has been invited to do a screen test to replace Samantha Harris as the ABC reality competition's co-host, TMZ reported Thursday.

Harris -- who began co-hosting Dancing with the Stars with Tom Bergeron prior to its Spring 2006 second season -- announced late last month that she wouldn't be returning for the show's tenth season, which premieres March 22.

Earlier this month, E! News had reported that former Dancing with the Stars' celebrity participants Brooke Burke and Melissa Rycroft as well as TV personality Vanessa Minnillo were the only serious contenders remaining for Harris' co-hosting position.

Brown finished second with professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy during Dancing with the Stars' Fall 2007 fifth season and subsequently hosted TLC's The Singing Office reality series with Joey Fatone the following summer.

Last month, she was tapped by Oxygen to host Dance Your Ass Off's second season, which is currently slated to air in the summer.
