"They're taking a break," an insider told Extra on Friday, adding that the split might not be permanent.

The Jon & Kate Plus 8 star reportedly put the breaks on his relationship with Glassman after meeting with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach -- who starred on TLC's Shalom in the Home reality series in 2006 and 2007.

"[Gosselin] apparently decided he needed to spend some time on his own," the source told Extra.

Glassman told The Insider during a recent interview that Gosselin -- whom she had been dating since the summer -- had been taking his anger out on her.

"He'll call me and take his anger out on me," she told The Insider. "He has 'mantrums.' I shouldn't have to put up with being emotionally abused. I cry and say, 'Why are you so mean to me?'"

In addition, Glassman also stated that Gosselin has problems when it comes to telling the truth.

"Sometimes he has trouble with the truth and he will dance and dance around his lies," Glassman told The Insider. "He's like Jekyll and Hyde. But I still love him."

Gosselin subsequently released a statement in which he expressed remorse for the way he was treating Glassman and added he was "committed to making things right" with her.

However the decision to put their romantic relationship on hiatus reportedly came on the same day she conducted her The Insider interview.

"They broke up the day she did that interview," a source told Us Weekly on Friday. "She told me it was gonna be over. She was just waiting to let him go."

According to a People source, Glassman's The Insider interview, Gosselin's subsequent statement and the their split was "all a carefully orchestrated sequence."

"First, Hailey laments how hard her life has been lately and how bad Jon treats her, then Jon repents. Next, Jon plans to announce that he is going to be spending some time alone," the source told People. "It has all been designed so that it doesn't seem as though Hailey got dumped."

In addition, the source added whether or not the couple stays split remains to be seen.

"Jon has said he was done [with Glassman] before, but he basically hasn't been single since he was 19," the source told People.  "He doesn't really know how to be alone. He'll probably still spend most of his time either with Hailey, or some new girl."

A Gosselin representative had no comment when contacted by People.
