"It was an amicable thing. But between the final months of X Factor and my responsibilities with [my label] Cascine, there was little time for us."
The distance between the couple -- who met during a flight in 2010 and chose to keep their relationship pretty hush-hush until they were spotted out together at a ChadValley concert in Los Angeles' EchoPark neighborhood in October -- also reportedly put strain on their romance, as Abdul currently resides in L.A. and Bratton lives in New York.
Despite the breakup, Bratton insisted he and the former Live to Dance creator and judge will remain good friends.
"We're still close," Bratton said. "And I'll always be grateful for the time we shared as a couple."
