"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," the Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Kourtney and Kim Take New York star said in a media statement released Monday afternoon.

"I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."

Kardashian reportedly filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday morning, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split from Humphries and October 31 -- today's date -- as the couple's separation date.

In the filing, Kardashian is requesting the terms of the couple's prenuptial agreement -- which she had previously declined to confirm the existence of -- be enforced, E! News reported.

Kardashian and Humphries got engaged in May after six months of dating and then wed in late August in front of 450 guests at a private estate in Montecito, CA.

Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event, a two-part special which documented the ceremony and the events leading up to it, was broadcast on E! earlier this month.

The marriage was the second for Kardashian, who was married to music producer Damon Thomas from 2000 to 2004.
