Khloe Kardashian is understandably handling Lamar Odom's "critical" condition terribly.

Kardashian, 31, rushed to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas Tuesday evening to be at her ex-husband's bedside -- and she ended up spending the night with him -- after the former NBA player was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel, E! News reported.

Kardashian is "completely inconsolable and heartbroken," a source told E! News.

Recent reports claim cocaine, opiates and "every drug imaginable" were found in Odom's body. He has allegedly suffered multiple strokes and is currently on life support with a failing heart as well as issues with his lungs and kidneys.

"[Khloe] is terribly worried and distraught over everything. She tried for so long to help Lamar get better, but he just can't get rid of his demons," the source told E! News of Odom's longtime struggle with substance abuse and infidelity.

"She still cares so much about him and wishes desperately that she could help him. They talk on the phone and communicate, but half the time she can't reach him. She's put so much energy and heart into trying to be there for him through all his troubles."

An insider close to the Kardashians told People it's "unthinkable that Khloe has to go through this."

"Everyone has dropped everything to get there. There are a lot of calls and texts going back and forth as everyone is figuring out how they can help and be there for each other. They are asking their close friends to pray for Lamar, for healing and strength," the insider explained.

"There is confusion about his condition... The family has been told that this isn't just a minor thing; that it was extremely serious. Everyone is very upset... he was a very important part of Khloe's life for so long."

Kardashian reportedly never hated Odom despite his problems nor did she feel indifferent to him.

"She wanted him, and still wants him to pull it together and live a happy life," the insider told People. "She doesn't wish him harm. Even though they are not together anymore, I know that she cares about him and is devastated by this."

Kris Jenner has also been at the hospital to support Odom and Kardashian. She was photographed looking distraught as she left Wednesday morning. Odom has had former basketball teammates visiting him, and according to Us Weekly, two of his three children are on their way.

Kendall Jenner was the first member of Kardashian's family to break her silence. She wrote "please don't go" on Twitter while in Shanghai, China for Fashion Week.

Kardashian and Odom wed in September 2009 and finalized their divorce this past July.
