Jewel Kilcher is standing behind her opinion that if a Dancing with the Stars contestant is too injured to compete live than they shouldn't be judged based on a taped rehearsal performance, however she says feelings have nothing to do with Melissa Rycroft, who missed last week's performance round.

"Wow! I can't believe my comment on [husband Ty Murray's] website got so mangled- and now gossip columns hijacked it and put words in my mouth! Go back to my original blog- I like Melissa and think she's gifted (and a real Texas sweetheart), and I adore Steve-O. My comment had nothing to do with either of them," wrote Jewel in a Friday blog posting on her personal website.

"My comment was on a sports website about a rule I have never seen in any type of competition before. Name another sport where if you can't compete, they use your score from practice. Can you imagine an Olympic diver who can't compete for any reason, and so they let them use their practice dives from that day? Or a chess match, for that matter. If Ty were in the same position, I'd still ask the same thing."

Jewel was backtracking from a Wednesday morning post on Murray's MySpace blog in which she took aim at Rycroft -- who was unable to perform during Monday night's live Dancing with the Stars eighth-season performance episode due to a rib injury.

Instead the judges had to score Rycroft on a taped rehearsal performance, similar to the way they were forced to previously judge Stephen "Steve-O" Glover after he missed a live performance show due to a back injury.

"Being a rodeo and bull riding fan it's hard for me to get used to someone who is injured still getting a score. I think the rule about 'judging a rehearsal if the person is too injured to perform' was weird both times they have used it," wrote Jewel in the Wednesday post on Murray's MySpace blog.

"As bad as I felt for Melissa, who I hope feels better and comes back, I'm used to our cowboy athletes that live by the rule: 'ride hurt or don't get a score.' It may seem harsh, but it seems like the only way to keep things honest. If you're too hurt to compete then you can't compete."

In setting the record straight about her comments, Jewel stated there were never any ill intentions behind her opinion of the Dancing with the Stars rule.

"I am not a mean-spirited person, and I think all my fans know that," she wrote in her Friday posting.

"Ty and I have fallen in love with all the contestants, and are in awe of how hard they all work. I can tell you that whoever wins this competition will have earned it, as I see firsthand how incredibly hard they all work. So please don't believe what the gossip columns are trying to turn this into. This isn't a catty girl versus girl thing they are trying to make it into- neither I nor Melissa are like that."

Jewel is forced to withdraw from Dancing with the Stars eighth season before it even premiered after suffered fractured tibias in both of her legs during training with her professional partner Dmitry Chaplin.
