Jessica Simpson is getting back into acting.

NBC has picked up a pilot presentation for a television comedy starring the Fashion Star mentor, designer and new mom, Deadline Hollywood reported.

The half-hour pilot for the sitcom will reportedly be inspired by Simpson's life and feature a script written by Two And A Half Men writer Nick Bakay. The pitch was developed by Nick and Robin Bakay.

"I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life -- so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!" Simpson said in a statement obtained by Deadline Hollywood.

"Jessica Simpson is truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops," added executive producer Ben Silverman. "From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud."

Electus and Universal Television will be producing the pilot, as the company already works with NBC and Simpson -- who previously acted in movies and starred in VH1's The Price of Beauty and MTV's Newlyweds reality series -- on Fashion Star.

In addition to Simpson, Silverman and Nick Bakay, Simpson's father and manager Joe Simpson will also reportedly be serving as an executive producer.
