Giuliana Rancic has undergone a successful double mastectomy, a surgical operation to remove both her breasts, in attempt to beat breast cancer.

"G is doing really well," husband Bill Rancic told E! News following Giuliana's operation Tuesday night.

"Her surgery lasted about four hours and the doctors were very pleased with the result."

The Giuliana and Bill star said his wife's recovery has been progressing, and with that, her attitude has remained optimistic.

"She had a little bit of pain through the night but is feeling much better this morning and was cracking jokes," said Bill, who met Giuliana after he won the original season of The Apprentice.

Giuliana and Bill told Ann Curry during an appearance on NBC's Today show earlier this month that they had decided together that Giuliana should get the double mastectomy instead of undergoing an additional double lumpectomy [a lump-removal surgery in both breasts] and radiation in attempt to clean out one breast after her original lumpectomy had failed to remove the entire cancer mass.

The couple pondered for some time which option to take advantage of, but Giuliana said she ultimately opted for the double mastectomy because it would allow her to have children much sooner, would increase her chances of defeating the cancer completely, and she could live her life without having to constantly worry about future mammograms.

"I want to thank all the viewers and fans for their support and prayers," Giuliana told E! News. "The tweets and notes have not gone unnoticed. I am very grateful."
