Giuliana Rancic has been open about her struggle with infertility for years and just shared some devastating news.

Giuliana and her husband Bill Rancic have lost their last remaining embryo as a result of their surrogate miscarrying, People reported.

After welcoming a son Duke via surrogate in 2012, the couple had three embryos left in the hope of having a second child. The Giuliana & Bill stars revealed in June 2014 their surrogate's pregnancy ended in miscarriage about nine weeks in.

"Giuliana was rather distraught at first, but she's tough," Bill said at the time. "In times like this we rely on our faith. Once the tears went away we started to look towards the future. We're fighters."

And now, the couple has announced their surrogate -- who was pregnant with their third and final embryo -- has miscarried again. Giuliana and Bill learned of this news on New Year's Eve.

"It was painful," Giuliana, 40, told People. "We were so optimistic with this last embryo. We thought, 'This is definitely going to work. This is our last shot.'"

This time was "really hard" for their family, according to Giuliana. "[The latest loss] was the toughest blow."

However, Giuliana said she's becoming more open-minded about her options.

"We're open to everything. I think adoption is a beautiful gift you're giving each other," the E! News host explained. "And it's funny, I'm even more open to [adoption] than I was before. Because I think to myself, 'I love Duke so much, if I couldn't take care of him, I hope there would be someone else who would love him.'"

Rancic is currently on medication while in remission from her 2011 breast cancer, so it's just too risky to try to carry a baby herself.
