The 21-year-old model covers the magazine's August edition with Ashton Eaton, who won the gold medal in the decathlon at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The issue marks Hadid's first U.S. Vogue cover.

"An ultimate dream come true, I am beyond humbled," Hadid wrote on Instagram. "To be able to share it with Olympic gold medalist and my new friend #AshtonEaton is such an honor."

"I couldn't think of a cover I'd rather be on than the one celebrating athletics," the longtime volleyball player and equestrienne wrote.

"Being an athlete has brought so much pride and joy to my life and has instilled the work ethic that still drives me every day."

The inside spread, shot by famed fashion photographer Mario Testino, features a photo of Hadid clearing a hurdle in stiletto heels.

The jump impressed Eaton, who praised the model's aptitude on Twitter.

"In case it was still in question @GigiHadid has crazy athletic ability. Her hurdle + heels was insane to see IRL," the 28-year-old Olympian wrote Thursday.

Hadid previously called herself an "athletic person" in the January issue of British Vogue.

The model is known for her work with Chanel and Balmain and has appeared on a dozen other covers for Vogue and Teen Vogue worldwide.

Eaton qualified this month for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, which begin Aug. 5.

The decathlete hails from Portland, Ore., and competes for the Oregon Track Club Elite based in Eugene.
