"Kate is pretty dreadful. She's crap. But in a nice way. She is entertaining," the Dancing with the Stars judge said during a Wednesday appearance on TBS' Lopez Tonight.
"People like disaster movies. We've got our own disaster movie there everyday. 2012 is nothing compared to the catastrophe she produces. She is a tough cookie. She gets it in the face, she comes back and she tries to get better. It doesn't really work."
While the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star and her professional partner Tony Dovolani haven't received rave reviews from the judges, the couple has yet to be eliminated due to her popularity with viewers.
"There is one side of it we have to appreciate: She's never really performed. She's not a performer," said Tonioli.
"It is involving. I would watch because I would want to see is she going to finally be able to do something."
In addition, Tonioli said there are some celebrity participants who you "don't expect to be good" but actually surprise you -- like former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson.
"I thought Pamela Anderson was going to be terrible. All she is gonna do is lay back and show her tits and get on with it but she's not. She's good," he said.
"Forget about the bombshell. Forget about the sex... She actually comes out and delivers a performance full of content and she works very, very hard and she is good at it."
Like Gosselin, Tonioli said Anderson also has an enduring quality.
"She goes for it. She really does. And she will get better," he said. "I really hopes she's given the opportunity to really show us there's more to it than just a pair of large bosoms."
