Bruce Jenner admits he was "terrified" to tell his six biological children and four stepchildren he's transitioning into womanhood, and they all processed the news in their own way.

"Those are the only ones I'm concerned with and the only ones in my life I can't allow myself to hurt... [I thought], 'How do I do this and not hurt my children?' I tried to explain to them that as much as their upbringing was 'her,' it was the 'he' side," Bruce told Diane Sawyer in his Bruce Jenner: The Interview special on 20/20 Friday night.

Bruce has six biological children: Burt and Cassandra with his first wife Chrystie Crownover, Brandon and Brody with second wife Linda Thompson, and Kendall and Kylie with third wife Kris Jenner. He also has four stepchildren whom Kris had with her late husband Robert Kardashian -- Khloe, Kim, Kourtney and Rob.

Bruce told his kids he'll always be there for them and is not going anywhere. But the revelation still didn't sit well with Khloe in particular. Khloe is having the hardest time accepting her stepfather's gender transformation.

"With all of the girls, it's tough on them. I understand that," confessed Bruce, adding that the girls wondered why he had to come out now.

"You would think out of all the kids, Khloe is the most fun and open-minded, like 'Hey, let's go party!' That's not the case with Khloe. [She's been] very emotional. She's had the toughest time with it because she's had a lot of losses in her life. She lost her father at a young age. He died suddenly of cancer, and you know, [Lamar Odom] had his issues."

As previously shown on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Khloe had told Bruce that he was the man in her life. He was her father figure since she was five-years-old.

"She feels like there's this massive: 'My whole life is falling apart. It's my dad.' And I tried to explain that I can't argue that point but I'm not going anywhere," Bruce said.

As for Kourtney?

"Her concern is her kids, especially Mason," Bruce told Sawyer. "He's five. But I've noticed that kids are very adaptable."

The first child Bruce ever told his lifelong secret to was Brandon whom he calls the family's "little Gandhi." But the first of the girls he ever came out to was Kim. Bruce admitted Kim had actually caught him wearing a dress years ago.

"[Kim] walked in and kind of walked out and jumped in her car and went for a ride. I tried to call her and say, 'Are you okay?' It was like this big secret in the family and we never talked about it again," Bruce explained.

Once tabloids took off and the media was discussing Bruce's possible gender change, Kim removed the elephant from the room and wanted to get to the bottom of things.

"I said, 'Okay, I'm so tired of lying to everyone.' And I told [Kim] all my issues, what I'm dealing with... And then after it was over with, I felt much better. But when I brought the subject up again, I said, 'Are you avoiding this? I would understand that. Are you okay?' And she said, 'Well I just thought it was one of these subjects I couldn't talk about,'" Bruce confessed.

Bruce's desire to become a woman also couldn't have been much of a surprise to his youngest, Kendall and Kylie. The girls also caught him crossdressing one day, but like Kim, didn't talk about it.

"Kendall and Kylie caught me because they had their computer on that security mode that if anybody walked into the room, the computer went on, because Kendall thought Kylie was stealing clothes from her. Caught! They came home and turned on their computer and, 'Oh my God!' Oh, it was me! It was the only full-length mirror in the house," Bruce explained.

Everyone kept Bruce's struggle under wraps in fear the news would blow up their family and its empire.

However, Bruce recently sat down with his girls to finally discuss his transition in depth. They all apparently cried "mainly because they don't want anybody to hurt dad. They're very protective of me, especially Kendall and Kylie."

But Kim later had a breakthrough because she received a piece of advice from an unexpected source.

"Kim told me a story. She goes, 'You know what really turned me around on thinking about this?... Kanye,'" Bruce revealed.

"He said to Kim, 'Look, I can be married to the most beautiful woman in the world, and I am. I can have the most beautiful little daughter in the world. I have that. But I'm nothing if I can't be me -- if I can't be true to myself, they don't mean anything.' From Kanye, yeah! And since then, Kimberly has been, by far, the most accepting."

Bruce then shared with Sawyer how Kim had joked with him about needing to look good if he's really going through with this gender change. Kim teased him that because he's a part of the Kardashian/Jenner family, he needs to look great. Bruce disclosed that information with a laugh and huge smile.

Mostly all of Bruce's kids have addressed this announcement and are supportive and happy for him. Brandon told Sawyer he feels like he's getting "an upgraded version" of his dad -- of a parent. Brody said everything finally makes sense and he actually feels a little relieved.
