Bret Michaels' bachelorhood is coming to a formal end.

The former Rock of Love star and The Celebrity Apprentice winner proposed to Kristi Lynn Gibson, his on-again, off-again girlfriend of 16 years, during Monday night's season finale broadcast of Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It, the rocker's new VH1 docu-reality series.

Michaels proposed to Gibson, whom he has two daughters with, using the same "promise ring" he had given her earlier this year.

"It's a promise ring -- a friendship ring, with benefits.  That's what we call it," Michael had explained in July when incorrect reports that the couple was engaged surfaced after Gibson was spotted wearing the diamond ring.

"It's a work in progress, absolutely.  She's a beautiful woman, she's strong, I love her.  We respect each other and I think that's the start of a great relationship."

Monday night's Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It broadcast featured Gibson and Michaels discussing his hesitancy to commit to marrying her.

"I just want you to know that honestly, I bought you that ring not to be a 'friendship with benefits' [ring]... we've had that for a while," Michaels said as the couple sat on a sofa in their Arizona home.

"It's just a ring... I mean, this means nothing," Gibson told Michaels.

"Well, it means something to me and I," Michaels replied.  "I love you so much, and for you to be able to just even say -- to give this back and not care, I mean, it just makes me feel like, then I really know that we need to make this work."

Michaels then proposed after sliding off the sofa and getting down on one knee.

"I want you to know that I love you and you've been unbelievably a big part of my life... we have two beautiful girls together, and I know we love and respect each other, and I hope that we can find that inner love that we could have forever.  I want you to be my wife," Michaels said.

"Are you sure?" Gibson replied.

"I'm sure.  Just say yes, because rejection will kill me right now, if you reject me," Michaels replied.
