Matt Hoover proposed to Suzy Preston live on the air during Tuesday's "Today" show on NBC, People magazine reported.

Hoover, a former wrestling coach from Iowa, dropped to one knee and asked the Seattle hairstylist for her hand in marriage.

The couple, both 29, met when Preston weighed 227 pounds and Hoover tipped the scale at 339 pounds, People noted. They began their romance in secret during the filming of the reality TV weight-loss competition and had their first real date days after the show's finale aired.

Together, they dropped 252 pounds. Hoover was crowned "The Biggest Loser" and won $250,000 while Preston took home $25,000.

"We have a lot in common," Preston told People. "Going through something like we went through is life-changing.

"We are not the same people we were before all this and we are both at a point in our lives where we know what it's like to be fat and miserable -- and what it's like to be happy and healthy."
