'American Idol' judge Paula Abdul breaks nose trying to avoid her dog

By Christopher Rocchio, 05/22/2007

Paula Abdul recently flipped head over heels, but it wasn't because of her excitement for American Idol's sixth season finale.

Abdul broke her nose over the weekend while trying to avoid stepping on Tulip, her chihuahua, Abdul publicist David Brokaw told The Associated Press on Monday.  While she is currently recovering from the incident, The AP reported Abdul will still be present at Hollywood's Kodak Theater for the two-night American Idol sixth season finale that will see Jordin Sparks, a 17-year-old from Glendale, AZ, take on Blake Lewis, a 25-year-old from Bothell, WA.

"[Abdul's] a little sore, but she's doing fine," Brokaw told The AP.

Sore might be an understatement, considering Abdul told the syndicated entertainment show Extra that she tore cartilage in her nose and also fractured a toe, according to The AP.

"I took a nasty fall... trying not to hurt my dog," Abdul told Extra, according to The AP.  "I bruised myself on my arm... my chest, my waste all the way down to my hip.  All from my little chubby Tulip."

Abdul accomplished her mission of not hurting her dog, as Brokaw told The AP Tulip is okay. I naddition to the physical pain she's in, Abdul will also most likely endure some ribbing from fellow Idol judge Simon Cowell as well as host Ryan Seacrest during Idol's final sixth season live performance episode tonight on Fox.
