American Idol may soon have a judge who's written and produced songs for stars such as Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry and Ke$ha.

Dr. Luke, a 39-year-old American songwriter and record producer formally known as Lukasz Gottwald, is negotiating his way onto American Idol's thirteenth-season judging panel, Us Weekly reported.

The potential addition of Dr. Luke reportedly comes at a price, however, as he is being considered for the gig only because talks with recording artist and Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am, 38, fell through.

According to an Us source, negotiations with will.i.am were put on hold because a salary deal couldn't be reached and Dr. Luke therefore moved up to the forefront.

Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly confirmed earlier this month the network has had discussions with Dr. Luke and will.i.am in addition to former Idol judge Jennifer Lopez and former finalist Jennifer Hudson as part of his announcement Keith Urban will be returning as a judge.

"All have been talked about and discussed," Reilly said during a Television Critics Association press tour panel at the time.

While Urban will definitely be coming back to the show and Lopez's boyfriend Casper Smart seemed to recently let the cat out of the bag that Lopez will be returning to the panel as well, Reilly had stressed no other deals are in place yet.
