ABC to premiere 'Dancing with the Stars' eighth edition on March 9

By John Bracchitta, 12/04/2008

ABC has announced that Dancing with the Stars' eighth season will premiere with a two-hour performance episode on Monday, March 9 at 8PM ET/PT.

Similar to the premiere of the show's fifth season in 2007, the eighth season's premiere will be spread over the course of three broadcasts, which will give each dance couple two opportunities to prove their worth on the dance floor before the season's first results show.

However, while the fifth season aired its first three episodes over the course of three consecutive nights, Dancing with the Stars' eighth-season premiere will be spread over the course of two weeks.

After debuting on March 9, Dancing with the Stars' second eighth-season episode will be another performance show that will air the following Monday on March 16 at 8PM ET/PT.  The day after the second performance show, the season's first one-hour results show will air on Tuesday, March 17 at 8PM ET/PT.

Following the first results show, Dancing with the Stars will air another two-hour performance show on Monday, April 6 at 8PM ET/PT, after which the performance shows will settle back into their usual 8-9:30 PM ET/PT time period.

Dancing with the Star's two-hour seventh-season finale recently aired on Tuesday, November 25, with former Rock Star host Brooke Burke and her professional partner Derek Hough taking home the mirror ball trophy.

Burke's win marked the show's second consecutive female contestant victory.  Prior to last spring's sixth-season win by Kristi Yamaguchi, first-season champion Kelly Monaco had been the reality series' only female winner.
