A&E announced it has begun production on Steven Seagal: Lawman, a new reality series that will follow the actor as he works as a police officer in New Orleans, Daily Varietyreported Monday.
"I decided to work with A&E on this series now because I believe it's important to show the nation all the positive work being accomplished here in Louisiana," Seagal told Variety.
The 56-year-old action film star has worked as a fully commissioned deputy with the Jefferson Parish County Sheriff's Office for nearly two decades.
"[Seagal] helps fight crime because he cares about the community," A&E programming executive Robert Sharenow told Variety.
Steven Seagal: Lawman is currently slated to debut in late 2009.
Armed & Famousaired on CBS in early 2007 and followed several D-list celebrities as they trained to become and subsequently worked as police officers in Muncie, IN.
While CBS had ordered eight episodes of Armed & Famous, only four were broadcast before the network canceled the show after it struggled to compete against American Idol's sixth season on Fox.
