VH1 announced it has ordered Football Wives, a new spin-off of its Basketball Wives docu-reality series that will instead follow the spouses of professional football players.

Production is currently slated to begin immediately and the series is expected to premiere later this year.

"Building on the success of Basketball Wives, we want to take a look at the differences and challenges of being the better half of a player in America's most popular sport," said VH1 programming executive Jeff Olde.

"We are thrilled to expand this franchise and give viewers access to a new, unique and exclusive world that you have to see to believe."

Similar to Basketball Wives, which premiered last month, the new docu-reality series will follow the players' wives in their everyday lives.

The eight-episodes series is being produced by Shed Media.
