The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner has revealed why he has a giant lion tattoo on his body.

During a one-on-one date with Leslie Fhima that aired earlier in the season on The Golden Bachelor, Gerry took his shirt off and sat in a hot tub with the beautiful bachelorette.

But instead of focusing on the couple's connection, many viewers couldn't take their eyes off the big lion-head tattoo on Gerry's right shoulder!

Gerry explained why he got the tattoo during a recent appearance on Live with Kelly & Mark.

"There was a point in time where I was thinking about taking on more responsibility in business and so forth," Gerry explained to Kelly Ripa.

"And there's this saying about [how] every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up and it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or the gazelle wakes up and it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten."

The 72-year-old retired restaurateur concluded, "It doesn't matter if you're a lion or a gazelle; when the sun comes up, you better be running!"

Gerry recalled how that was something he "really believed in at the time."

"And so when I saw that poster," he elaborated, "I thought, 'That's the perfect tattoo.'"

Kelly's husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, was clearly impressed, and he looked at Gerry in shock and awe. 

"I just fell in love with Gerry," Mark joked. "[In this scenario], I'm definitely the gazelle."

Gerry admitted he was "a little bit" surprised by fans' strong reaction to his ink during another recent appearance on Sherri Shepherd's talk show.

"Tattoos are pretty ordinary these days," Gerry said on Sherri. "I didn't think it was that big of a deal."

Gerry, however, confirmed that he doesn't have any more tattoos on his body.

But Gerry's tattoo isn't the only physical attribute many The Golden Bachelor fans have been gushing or gossiping about.

For one thing, many viewers have noticed Gerry's flawless skin and complexion.

"The whole skincare regimen is well water rubbed on my face in the morning," Gerry told his local Indianapolis Star newspaper in an interview this month.

"I shower at night, and that's about it. There's nothing else. You know, genetics doesn't come in a bottle."

Gerry has also received compliments on his fashion sense and outfit choices on The Golden Bachelor.

"It really is a lot of ABC, but they asked me how I like to be dressed and they have a person who does a really, really great job," Gerry shared of the franchise's wardrobe team, including stylist Cary Fetman.

Gerry apparently isn't afraid of color, nor does he like blending in with others.

"I told them, 'Don't bother with a black suit. I won't wear it,'" Gerry said.

"So we looked for colors and something a little bit edgy because that's kind of how I like to dress -- a little bit edgy where somebody might look at it and go, 'Ooh, I think I kind of liked that, but I wouldn't wear it.' That's the reaction I kind of look for."

For the haters out there, Gerry insisted that criticism and rumors don't bother him.

"I love finding the marginal negative, questionable comments. They are the best entertainment. I love it," Gerry told the Indianapolis Star, adding how some of the remarks on social media crack him up and are "really funny."

On The Golden Bachelor, Gerry has two women left in the running for his heart: Leslie, a 64-year-old fitness instructor from Minneapolis, MN, and Theresa Nist, a 69-year-old financial services professional from Shrewsbury, NJ.

Gerry said he's in love with both women, and Leslie and Theresa are also in love with him.

The Golden Bachelor will air its finale on Thursday, November 30 at 8PM ET/PT on ABC.
