"I asked him, I said, 'What are you looking for? Because this is what I'm looking for.' I went in with the idea, 'Is he good for me?' Yeah, you're tall, handsome and successful -- I dated that before," Peg explained during the Tuesday, October 21 episode of the "Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour" podcast.
"I wanted to get to know who he was inside and get to know if he was right for me and my life."
Peg admitted she didn't begin filming The Golden Bachelor's second season was "guns ablazing" because she was "not happy" with Mel's widely-reported podcast comments.
Two months after Mel was announced as The Golden Bachelor's new star, the attorney and former NFL player sparked backlash when he said he'd automatically cut women age "60 or over" from his cast of senior bachelorettes.
Peg explained of Mel's June appearance on the "MGoBlue" podcast with Jon Jansen, "You can ask my daughter. I was not happy! I was like, 'I dated those guys; I don't want to date those narcissistic, egotistical asses anymore!' I've been there, done that."
Peg therefore said she had some "pause" when competing for Mel's heart.
"But I knew I was going to get some alone time with him, and when I did at The OC Fair, we were eating our turkey legs and drinking our beer and stuff, and then we had a break," Peg recalled.
"I went to him and I said, 'Look, I need to ask you something. I said, 'I'm glad that you apologized to all the women [on Night 1], I get that. But I need to know who you are.'"
Peg apparently put Mel in his place and didn't let him off the hook so easily.
"I said, 'If you are the guy on that podcast' -- I looked him directly in the eye -- and I said, 'I don't want to date you. I don't want to date you. I don't want to waste my time, and I don't want to waste your time,'" Peg revealed.

"I said, 'I'm sitting here like a little Chihuahua because I'm not going to open up my heart when I've dated these guys before and all they do is rip your heart out and they leave you bleeding everywhere.'"

Peg said Mel then apologized to her "personally" for his prior superficial and ageist comments.
"Once we talked about it a little bit, I realized, 'He's not the guy that everyone is perceiving him to be,' and I suspended judgement," Peg insisted.
"Because I really wanted to know who was inside. Yeah, he's tall, good looking, all that great stuff, but are you right for me? Can you fit into my life, you know? And I just let down my guard and really started to have a good time."
Peg joked about how she has "a lot of energy" and "annoys the sh-t" out of a lot of people.
"And you know, getting to know him, he was nervous. He's a human being just like we are. He was nervous as much as we were nervous," Peg said.
"But I went in there and I wasn't nervous. I just wanted to be me, and if you love me or hate me, I am who I am."

"My impression was, 'He's got to be replaced because this is just bad, a bad feeling,'" fellow The Golden Bachelor bachelorette Nicolle May shared on the "Bachelor Happy Hour" podcast earlier this month.
"It was bad. It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak. I didn't think it would be good."
The senior ladies therefore appeared relieved and vindicated when Mel issued an apology during the Night 1 cocktail party, which preceded the first Rose Ceremony of The Golden Bachelor's second season.
Mel apologized to his entire cast of women for insulting and offending them as well as hurting their feelings.

Mel pointed out how age is just a number and how spirit has no age, and he claimed that he didn't mean what he had said, especially after meeting such beautiful and impressive women over the age of 60. (The oldest woman in Mel's cast was 77, but he eliminated her right away).
"When I had my one-on-one with him, I said, 'Thank you so much for that. It meant a lot, and we're good,'" Nicolle shared in early October.
"[But] there were other women who were still holding onto that, even more than I was."
Like Nicolle and Peg, the recipient of Mel's First Impression Rose, Gerri Flowers, was also disappointed in Mel's podcast comments.
During her own appearance on "Bachelor Happy Hour," Gerri acknowledged that it was a tough pill to swallow before filming commenced in July.
"I was like, 'Hmm, what's up with that?' And then... some people said, 'Oh, you shouldn't go! Why are you going?'" Gerri revealed earlier this season.
Before The Golden Bachelor premiered its second season on ABC, Mel told Glamour magazine that his podcast comments were "unfair" and "insensitive."

Peg is one of Mel's Final 3 bachelorettes on The Golden Bachelor's second season, and Mel will be shown visiting the women's hometowns on the show's next episode.
Nicolle and Gerri have already been ousted from the competition.
