"So that connection is there; we just didn't want to rush it. Just because someone is telling us to get engaged or somebody is telling us to do it the way it's supposed to be done, we had to be authentic and true to ourselves."

Peg shared that she and Mel have been splitting their time between Orange County, CA, where Mel still works as an attorney, and Las Vegas, NV, where she had worked as a firefighter and bomb tech.
In terms of wedding details, Peg reiterated how they've "definitely talked about" what would be important to them.
"We're open to [televising] it," Peg revealed.
"But you know what? It's going to be small. We're not big -- we're not the big show people. If we do, we've been talking about maybe the beach, just having a really nice [day] with friends and family."
Peg said she wouldn't mind "showing up barefoot in some type of linen" dress.
"And we'll just do it on the beach!" Peg noted.
"We've been talking about that -- if and when that comes, you know, what does that look like to us?"
Peg acknowledged that Mel is "really a committed kind of guy," even though viewers weren't led to believe that by watching The Golden Bachelor.
"But he's only going to commit the way that it works for him. He's not going to commit to what you want him to be. Nobody is going to change him, and I don't want to change him!" she explained.

Since filming The Golden Bachelor finale, Peg has been proudly wearing the promise ring Mel had given her at the Final Rose Ceremony in Antigua.

Peg shared that when Mel does eventually propose marriage to her, he doesn't have to buy her a new engagement ring.
"No, we're going to keep this ring," Peg confirmed, "and we'll probably just get another band -- just, like, a wedding band."
Peg gushed about how her relationship with Mel is "real and sustainable" because they were able to build a strong foundation.
"Has he told me he loves me? Yes, he has. Have I told him that I love him? Yes, I have. But that took time and it took respect and it took trust... after the show wrapped up," Peg said.
Peg admitted that she "feels safe" with Mel and that means everything to her.
"He's so cute. I really adore him," Peg concluded.

On The Golden Bachelor's Season 2 finale, Mel's other finalist, Cindy Angelcyk Cullers, quit during her Fantasy Suite date because Mel had admitted he couldn't see himself getting engaged to his winning bachelorette for two years.
On top of that, Mel confessed he was "torn" between his Final 2 bachelorettes and didn't feel love for either of them yet.
Cindy, seemingly desperate for validation and vulnerability from Mel, explained how she had joined The Golden Bachelor as a leap of faith and was expecting an engagement at the Final Rose Ceremony.
"You know the saying, 'First comes love, then comes marriage'... That's how it works," Mel told Cindy in reply.

Cindy said she wanted a commitment from Mel -- which she didn't think was too much to ask for -- and so it didn't seem like he was her guy.
After Cindy left the show, Mel continued the journey with Peg, who went on to meet Mel's two sons.
At the Final Rose Ceremony, Mel gave Peg a promise ring and said he wanted her in his future, but he didn't say he was "in love" with her, publicly, until they debuted their relationship on After the Final Rose.
Reports swirled after The Bachelor finale that Peg and Mel were already clashing and having problems, but Peg suggested that's no longer the case.
